Telemedicine improving lives of people in remote communities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Telemedicine project in Remote districts of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KP) is helping improve health services for thousands of families. Approximately 500 patients have received care through telemedicine in five remote districts of the province last two months. Under the initiative, patients are being examined in local health facilities connected with specialist doctors stationed at Services Hospital, Peshawar. Tech4Life Enterprises is supporting the government of KP in implementing the telemedicine initiative in five districts (Nowshera, Swabi, Karak, Battagram and Chitral).

The Telemedicine project uses highly advanced web and mobile-based telemedicine software MDConsults, which is developed by Tech4Life Enterprises. Tech4Life has also supported provision of digital equipment, training of healthcare workers in telemedicine and monitoring of project implementation.

In the last two months, over 100 patients each from Rural Health Centre (RHCs) Akbar Pura (Nowshera), RHC Yar Hussain (Swabi), RHC Ahmedabad (Karak), District Head Quarter Hospital Chitral and RHC Takot (Battagram) have received advanced care from specialists in Peshawar

The project is extending services to people in general medicine; obstetrics; gynecology; ear, nose, and throat; ophthalmology; psychiatry, Pediatrics; dermatology; radiology; cardiology; and general surgery. Under the program, the patients visit the designated health centers from where they get examined by specialists sitting in Peshawar at a scheduled time. It is envisaged to extend the project in rest of the KP Province.
