Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) awarded the Tech4Life team the “Rising Star in Global Health” award for developing a simple, non-invasive, and cost-effective wristband with Global Systems for Mobile (GSM) connectivity to monitor vital signs of pregnant women and automatically transfer data to health providers.
Why Should You Count on a Maternal Wristband?
The Maternal Wristband will revolutionize vital signs monitoring by being able to monitor pregnant women for key causes of mortality during pregnancy, such as preeclampsia, excessive blood loss, and gestational diabetes. Instead of travelling to health providers or laboratories, women can wear this wristband to monitor their health data which would be automatically sent to health providers using mobile connectivity/ Short Message Service (SMS). The device can also be used for monitoring non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and anemia in the general population.
